Search Terms

Choose your search terms based on your topic.  You can start your searching using keywords and subjects (as you would when searching for a library book).  You can search with general terms:

  • anatomy
  • first aid
  • gerontology
  • hygiene
  • mental health

Alternatively, search with more specific terms.  For example, a search for "diet therapy" will return fewer, more specific articles than a search for "nutrition".

Print Journals and Newspapers

Printed newspapers, magazines, and journals are available at all three campus libraries. Choose your campus below to see a list of magazines.

Magazines and newspapers are for use inside the library only.  A copier is available for black and white photocopies.

Search Limiters

Using broad search terms (like "surgical technologist") will return a large result set in EBSCOhost.  To narrow your results, you can use the following search limiting tools on the left-hand side of EBSCOhost:

  1. Full-text: By default, your search should be limited to full-text articles only.  Be sure to check that this option is selected.
  2. Scholarly (peer-reviewed) journals: Scholarly journals will be the best resources for this research assignment.  Selecting this option will eliminate newspapers, trade publications, book reviews, and other article types that will not include scientific research and information.
  3. Date:  Consider your topic.  You may only need articles written during a certain timeframe.  If you need articles written in the last five years, five days, or only in the 1980s - use the EBSCOhost time slider to limit your date range.
